Augmented Reality Installation

This installation is meant to give credit to women who we have to thank for the societal advancement of women while acknowledging that their names have already been erased from textbooks in Southern states across the United States. The nature of augmented reality allows viewers to put themselves alongside these female trailblazers, inspiring them to do their own research and take action in their communities.

The erasure of the accomplishments and ideas of women such as Ida B. Wells, Simone de Beauvoir, and Audre Lorde is represented through the distortion of the women's portraits, as rounded strips of their faces are removed, deleted, or pixelated. These feminist icons' images are trapped within the form of a record to reference the passage of time.

This piece was exhibited at the 2023 University of Missouri Undergraduate Juried Exhibition at the Bingham Gallery.
