Look

Acrylic yarn, scrap MDF, fishing line, projection

"Look,” is a three-channel video art installation that utilizes black and white footage shot on Mini DV tapes projected onto three wooden panels woven in colorful yarn.

In August of 2021, I began digitizing mini-DV and VHS tapes, which I've continually drawn inspiration from. In this project, I included footage taken by my dad in 2007 and 2008, when I was around 5. The overlapping imagery and audio are meant to signify my experience with EMDR therapy, which has been key in restoring my memory recall after a series of traumatic events in my teenage years hid them.

In this installation, the viewer is presented with many options on where to direct their attention, both visually and audibly. Although it is up to the audience, it may take multiple repetitions for every aspect of the piece to come to the viewer’s attention.

This piece was displayed on the University of Missouri Inter-media showcase in April and May of 2022.
