Gullible
Augmented Reality Installation
This piece is composed of 3 squares aligned vertically that connect through a looping animation, backed by an orchestral composition. The animation features recognizable parts of the human body which slowly appear in the façade of architecture, insects, and plant life. Pictured in vibrant colors, eyes, hands, and teeth, appear slightly non-human as if designed by a computer. This depiction is a reference to AI prompting generators which cannot seem to get the human form correct. The hands appear with extra fingers, the eyes have reptile-like eyelids which close vertically, and the mouth have a centered tooth in the front.
The physical portion of the piece is also composed of three squares aligned vertically, each embedded with the QR code. These squares are made from foam board and are hung from the ceiling with fishing line. Around the borders of each QR code is a vague representation of the digital animation, using collaged paper in the same color palette.
This piece was showcased in St. Charles during a storefront artwork initiative at Fierce Creative Agency through MU Art on the Move in Spring 2023.
